The Premier League Returns, Top 6 Predictions... Am I Right?

THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!
FOOTBALL IS FINALLY BACK!!

If like me, you have been sitting there with a world cup hangover for weeks, then you must be relishing the sweet pint of water and a half tonne of Paracetamol AKA the Premier League!

So after watching the opening game (Manchester United vs Leicester City) there was no real surprises in the result of the game, but holy shit United are boring and to be honest slightly lucky to have walked away with all 3 points.

So I fell asleep in the middle of writing this blog as it was taking so much longer than I had anticipated and it was 4am so now all Saturday matches have been played (Southampton vs Wolves is currently on) Already there have been a couple of results going against my initial views, LOVE IT!

With that in mind I thought I would review who I believe will be the Premier league top 6 this season! How each of their pre-season went, how they did business in the transfer window and rating their signings and key players.

If you would like me to do the same thing but for who I think will be relegated and out of 5 then please let me know!

Without further ado, let us begin!

Tottenham

Transfer's In

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm, Spurs? Did you forget about the transfer window or?
Tottenham have elected to sign absolutely no one... so, errrm, yeah... moving on!

Transfer's Out

Keanan Bennetts - To Borussia Monchengladbach (£2mil)

Pre-season

Despite not making any changes to their team, Spurs have actually had a pretty good pre-season.

Results

Tottenham 4 - 1 Roma
Barcelona 2 - 2 (5 - 3 pens) Tottenham
AC Milan 0 - 1 Tottenham
Girona 4 - 1 Tottenham

Well that was really boring to write, good old Spurs, always delivering the fun to all... Anyway, Harry Kane and company have slapped some of the biggest names in football this pre-season (yes its only a friendly blah blah blah) then, out of nowhere Girona go and give them a pasting!
I truly believe that Tottenham will struggle this season, not bringing a single new player into the squad makes them predictable to all prem teams.
Spurs have managed to win their first Premier league game narrowly 1 - 2 away to Newcastle, they had the lions share of possession but they had far too many shots allowed at their goal, against better opposition they could get punished!

Key player - Kane (no surprise there)

Predicted Table Finish

Chelsea

Transfer's In

Maurizio Sarri - Another season, another manager for Chelsea and honestly, speaking as a Chelsea fan, in terms of prestige, Sarri is the worst manager we have had (on paper). I liked Conte, he had passion and was great, how can a manager win the league in one season and the F.A cup in the next and lose their job? Wenger would have been fired 15 plus times if this was a rule! I am excited to see what he will do for the team but I am slightly bitter.

kepa arrizabalaga
£71mil... I can not even... I feel like we panic brought this kid.
Spains international number 2 means he must be pretty good, right? To be fair he is only 23, so if he is an amazing player then fair play he will continue in that vein for many seasons to come!
Rating - 4/10

Jorginho
Jorginho came over with Sarri from Napoli... I say came over but I think the £50mil that was paid influenced him a little bit! With Bakayoko being possibly THE worst footballer in the history of the world and Fabregas not getting any younger, Jorginho could be exactly what we need!
Rating - 7/10

Mateo Kovacic
Had a storming world cup, as did the whole Croatian team.
We have got the 24 year old on loan from Real Madrid and for the same reason as Jorginho, we are just trying to strengthen the midfield, it would be nice to see him get a lot of game time as he is a very exciting young player but I don't think he will get much game time.
Rating - 5/10

Robert Green - No... That is all...

Transfer's out

Thibaut Courtois - To Real Madrid (£31.5mil)… Don't even speak to me *crying*
Michy Batshuayi - On loan to Valencia... WHY?! He smashed it in the Bundesliga and we need a decent striker... it actually hurts...
One Million loans also...

Pre-season

Awful... Which is obvious... Once again the curse of the Chelsea striker strikes again. Every single pre season game was awful, the attacking was dire... 3 goals in 5 games? Morata is the living embodiment of a dog waste bin... Giroud is no different really, he won the world cup without recording a single goal and he started every game... We need a striker, we can not just keep shoving Hazard up and praying he turns into the 20+ goal a season that we all need....

Results

Perth Glory 0 - 1 Chelsea
Chelsea 1 - 1 (5-4) Inter Milan
Arsenal 1 - 1 (6 - 5 pens) Chelsea
Chelsea 0 - 2 Manchester City (Community shield)
Chelsea 0  - (5- 4 pens) Lyon

An out and out striker has failed to score a single goal in pre-season... 2 goals from Pedro and one from Rudiger… That is extent of Chelsea's pre-season goals.
Going forward we look absolutely lack luster, I do not know if this is shaking off the world cup exertion from our top players or what but something has to change if Chelsea are to put up an actual title challenge as currently we would be lucky if we challenged for top 4... again!!
So Chelsea have just managed to win their first game in this Premier league campaign. A convincing win against Huddersfield 0 - 3. Again no goal from a striker as Morata disappeared into nothing. Jorginho found the net from the penalty spot.
Kante scored from a Willian cross
Pedro finished it off with a goal off of a Hazard (who came off the bench) cross.
This was game Chelsea should be expected to win, in the early showing they could not break Huddersfield down and although Huddersfield did not really offer anything in terms of much competition after the 2nd goal, 3 goals could be seen as mildly flattering... but a win is a win and I hope we can move forward and mount some form of challenge.

Key Player - Morata (It should be Hazard or Pedro, but it is a long time from the January transfer window and if we do not have a striker come into rich form, it could be bad for us!)

Predicted Table Finish

Manchester United

Transfer's In

No manager change for this team, as much as most United fans are disappointed by this fact!

Diogo Dalot
Not going to lie, no idea who he is. He is a 19 year old full back who arrived from Porto for the fee of £17.4mil(ish). I can only assume he was brought in to either cover for Valencia (as he is getting older), cover for Shaw (who has played like one game in 5000 years due to injury), cover for Young as he is not getting any younger also! With the departure of Daley Blind he seems a smart buy for the future... if he is any good that is.
Rating 5/10

Fred
Yes, just Fred, I already love him! The young Brazilian CM arrives from Shaktar Donetsk for the fee of around £52mil, a hefty price for the young man. I think the idea of buying Fred is to bolster Manchester United's counter attack credentials, due to Mourinho favouring the park the bus attitude from the first minute it seems only right that he would want a pacey attack minded midfielder to sit up alongside Pogba. Could you imagine being a defender and having Pogba, Fred, Lukaku, Sanchez and Rashford running at you? I Would just lay down or move the hell out of the way! I hope this man lives up to his potential as he is a brilliant player.
Rating - 8/10

Lee Grant - free transfer from Stoke, back up goalkeeper... that is all.

Transfer's Out

Michael Carrick - Retired
Sam Johnstone - To West Brom (£6.5mil)
Daley Blind  - To Ajax (£14mil)
A bunch of loans to but hey, who cares?

Pre-season

Uniteds pre-season has not been great at all, managing only two wins out of their 6 games...
Mourinho showing his defensive approach even in pre-season friendlies, they did manage a win over Real Madrid but other than that there is really not much positive to be drawn from it.

Results

Manchester United 1 - 1 Club America
Manchester United 0 - 0 SJ E'Quakes
AC Milan 1 - 1 (8 - 9 pens) Manchester United
Manchester United 1 - 4 Liverpool
Manchester United 2 - 1 Real Madrid
Bayern Munich 1 - 0 Manchester United

With the results of Manchester Uniteds pre-season and the unrest between manager and fans. Fans being upset about the way their beloved Manchester United are playing, means that either Mourinho must stop being a stubborn arse and use his players to their full potential and risk flopping or stick with what he knows and maybe grind out a decent table finish... I would not be surprised if the results do not come in thick and fast, Mourinho could be sacked by Christmas!
Manchester United as stated at the start managed to win their first premier league game in an unconvincing 2-1 win to Leicester.
They played boring football and the fans were not impressed in the slightest!
A Positive though was Pogba taking his captaincy of the team by the horns and firing home after 3 minutes of play!
I just wonder if somehow Manchester United somehow go on a mad run playing the way fans hate and win the league, will they be happy or still pissed off that they won the way they did?

ARSENAL

Transfer's In

Unai Emery - Manager - Arguably the biggest news coming out of the Gunners camp is the assignment of their new manager coming in from managing PSG. He has finally taken over Arsene Wengers long standing post. Time will tell if he will be the hero Arsenal fans were crying out for, one things for sure, he knows what he is doing!

Stephan Lichsteiner
The Veteran RB arrives from Juventus on a free transfer
I can't see him being anything more than a fringe player and some experience for the youngsters, but hey a free transfer for an international level RB who has been playing in the top flight leagues for years is nothing to be sniffed at.
Rating - 5/10

Bernd Leno
The 26 year old goalkeeper arrives at the Emirates from Bayern Leverkusen for an absolute steal price of £19.3mil!
With Petr Cech already 36 it is time to look to the future. I believe that Leno will be the gunners number 1 for the season, not that Cech will give up without a fight.
Leno has been a fantastic keeper in the Bundesliga, only Neuer has more clean sheets than him (In the Bundesliga)
Rating - 8/10

Lucas Torreira
The 22 year old arrives after a fantastic display in the World Cup.
He had a fantastic season with Sampdoria in the Calcio A (according to info on him, I am pretty sure not many of us had ever heard of him before the World Cup) He plays in the defensive midfield role, will he be the next Patrik Vieira? That remains to be seen but Its a position Arsenal needed to fill for many years, lets hope they finally have especially for the price tag of £27mil!
Rating - 7/10

Sokratis Papastathopoulos
Good luck commentators!
The 30 year old Greek international arrives from Borussia Dortmund for £14.4mil
He has been incredible for many years in the Bundesliga and will be a very good cover for the injured Koscielny and could end up being a permanent staple.
The only issue is his age, will he be able to keep up with the Premier League pace?
Rating - 7/10

MattĂ©o Guendouzi - Who? 19 year old CM from FC Lorient, arrives for £7.2mil
Yeah... That's all I got for you...

Transfer's Out

Lucas PĂ©rez - To West Ham (£4mil...ish)
Chuba Akpom - To PAOK Saloniki (£900k)
Santi Cazorla - To Villareal (Free)
Jack Wilshere - To West Ham (Free)
Per Mertesaker - Retired

Pre-season

Arsenal have had a very solid pre-season, beating the likes of PSG, Chelsea and Lazio!

Results
Boreham Wood 0 - 8 Arsenal
Atletico Madrid 1 - 1 (3 - 1 pens) Arsenal
Arsenal 5 - 1 PSG
Arsenal 1 - 1 (6 - 5 pens) Chelsea
Arsenal 2 - 0 Lazio

All in all I think Arsenal have got off to a flying start and look very dangerous going forward, could we be witnessing the beginning of Arsenals rebirth?
We will see after their first game against Manchester City...

Predicted table finish

Manchester City

Transfer's In

Philippe Sandler
City are trying to bolster their youth ranks with this signing of a promising youngster. Hes only 21 and has represented his country in under 19 and under 20 competition (Netherlands). As a CB he brings some more depth to City's already terrifying defence! With Kompany getting older and injury stricken it seems like good business to look to the future of the defence, I mean, LaPorte, Stones, Otamendi, Walker aren't going anywhere any time soon but injury cover with a very promising youngster is great!
Rating 6/10

Riyad Mahrez
I literally have no idea why Manchester City have paid £60million for Mahrez! Like, he's a good player but he's not as good as Sane, Sterling, Silva, Jesus who can all play in his position. Apart from Silva, those players are very young and in their absolute prime. I can only think that Pep Guardiola saw Sterling being utterly useless during the world cup and wanted a replacement or they have just paid for a £60million sub... Hey who knows, he may start every game and have a season like his Premier league winning season, but I doubt it.
Rating 3/10

Daniel Arzani - Arrives from Melbourne City (who Manchester City are parent club for) he's 19 and a midfielder and is going to go out on loan to Celtic... That is literally all I know about him.

Transfer's Out

Pablo Maffeo - To VfB Stuttgart (£9mil)
Yaya Toure - Released
Angelino - PSV Eindhoven (Undisclosed)
Olarenwaju Kayode - To Shakhtar Donetsk (Undisclosed)
Ashley Smith-Brown - To Plymouth (Undisclosed)
Angus Gunn - To Southampton (Undisclosed)
Bersant Celina - To Swansea City (Undisclosed)
Joe Hart - To Burnley (Undisclosed)
A whole bunch of loans too...

Pre-Season

Manchester City had a pretty dead pre-season. Not only did they only play 3 games, they only won 1of them! The one that they won was a very close victory also.
However in true Manchester City style, when the games truly mattered they turned it out a smashed it, destroying Chelsea in the Community Shield!

Results

Manchester City 0 - 1 Borussia Dortmund
Manchester City 1 - 2 Liverpool
Bayern Munich 2 - 3 Manchester City
Chelsea 0 - 2 Manchester City

You can just never discount Manchester City, no matter how hard you want them to flop, they just don't. Their team is out of this world, their manager is one of the G.O.A.Ts! There is really not much to say about them, they already have silverware! Something has got to give though and I think this season it will and only one team can stop them... And I can not believe I am about to write this...

Predicted Table Finish

Liverpool

Transfer's In

Naby Keita
Naby Keita is one of those midfielders that show up out of nowhere, play incredibly and then just continue to do so, somewhat like Kante for Leicester and Chelsea. Liverpool had actually paid for him last season but he continued to offer his services to RB Liepzig for the remainder of the season. He has been outstanding in the Bundesliga for multiple seasons and if he continues in the same vein in the Premier league this man could be a terror!
Rating - 8/10

Fabinho
Amazing, I love this player I think he is brilliant. He has been dominating the midfield for Monaco over the past few seasons since they literally decided to appear out of nowhere and give PSG a fight for the first time in years! For only £40million in todays market he is an absolute steal! I am so jealous that Chelsea got the useless donkey that is Bakayoko and Liverpool get this god of a man... Again if he links up with Keita and continues his impressive form in the Premier league Liverpool could have the most secure midfield in the entire league!
Rating - 10/10

Xherdan Shaqiri
Shaqiri is the meme we don't deserve! How do you go from winning everything you can with Basel, to winning the Treble with Bayern Munich, to spending a season in Inter Milan, to scoring the goal of the tournament in euro 2016 then staying at Stoke, half performing for a club he has no interest in. Liverpool signing him is actually not that terrible. When this man plays he is amazing and unplayable at times the only issue is, this happens once or twice a season, but if he manages to get a half decent amount of game time at Liverpool (a club he thinks is worthy enough to have him) He may live up to his potential, he has already scored in the pre season. I mean it's not like he's about to fight for Salah's place in the team but maybe ManĂ© should be watching his back! For only £13mil I think he is a good signing.
Rating - 6.5/10

Alisson
Liverpool fans rejoice! No longer will Karius burn your retinas with his atrocious performances, Champions league final loosing performances. Performances that make me wonder if he had a run in with Darth Vader and lost both his god damn hands! Alisson, the Brazil national team number 1. After a very solid world cup and even more solid couple of seasons with Roma, the young Brazilian fully deserved his record breaking transfer fee of £67mil, even if it was only short lived (Liverpool got the better player for less money, I AM SO BITTER ABOUT KEPA!!… can't wait for this to bite me in the arse and Kepa becomes the best keeper in the world...) Again, if he continues his form he will be one of the best (maybe even the best if De Gea continues his World cup form) in the entire league, I mean at the end of the day its not like he could ever be any worse that Karius!!
Rating - 10/10

Bobby Duncan - 17 year old kid. Striker, Steven Gerrard's cousin, apparently pretty good, English, annnnd that's all I got! Oh, he arrived for free from Manchester City.

Transfer's out

Emre Can - To Juventus (Free)
Yan Dhanda - To Swansea City (Free)
Jon Flanagan  - To Rangers (Free)
Danny Ward - To Leicester City (£12.5mil)
Paulo Alves - To Wolves (Free)
Andy Firch - To Barrow (Undisclosed)
A bunch of loans too...

Pre-Season

Sensational pre-season! 27 goals in 9 games! 27!! Liverpool appear to be picking up where they left off in terms of their fantastic attacking and exciting football which had even the biggest Liverpool haters purring! Not only that, they only lost 1 game out of those 9! I honestly believe this could finally be Liverpools year! If Salah and co play to the level they played at last season especially with the new signings they made I think they will be truly hard to beat!

Results

Chester 0 - 7 Liverpool
Tranmere Rovers 2 - 3 Liverpool
Bury 0 - 0 Liverpool
Blackburn Rovers 0 - 2 Liverpool
Borussia Dortmund 3 - 1 Liverpool
Manchester City  1 - 2 Liverpool
Manchester United  1 - 4 Liverpool
Napoli 0 - 5 Liverpool
Liverpool 3 - 1 Torino

I NEVER thought I would be writing such things about Liverpool but credit where it is due. They look like a force to be reckoned with! It will be a close competition with Manchester City hot on their heels and vice versa as the season goes on but I really belive that Liverpool may just edge this one, god, it actually makes me feel ill to write such things!

Predicted Table Finish

Well there you have it, I said it... my big dark secret... that I believe Liverpool will win the Premier League this season (I know it looks like I am a Liverpool fan, but I hate them just as much as the rest of you!)
Anyway I look forward to an amazing season of Premier League football!

I am so sorry about there being no blogs recently, this took me SO SO SO much longer than I had anticipated! I really hope you enjoy it as I put In a Tonne of time into this!
